Anti-bullying expert gives tips to families to help their children be safe:
- Keep lines of communication open. Encourage children to talk to you if they are being bullied at school.
- Report any bullying to school administrators/teachers. Encourage children to walk away from a bully and tell an adult.
- Bullying is all about control. Take away the power of a bully by ignoring the bully.
- Bullying can be loud or quiet. Look for cyberbullying or inappropriate messages on your child’s computer.
- A successful school year starts with a safe environment at school. Keep your eyes open for any sort of verbal or mental abuse.
