Black Belt has invited Guillermo Gomez to demonstrate how to use aikido to stop a front choke attack. Gomez demonstrates concentrating on the opponent’s wrist, using a nikyo immobilaztion technique, pressure on the wrist, to cause the opponent to release his grip on your throat.
“[Nikyo] enables me to control the wrist,” Guillermo Gomez says, “after which I bend the elbow and use my hips and the rotation of my body to put more pressure on it.”
“This [sequence of aikido moves] works because I control the thumb,” Guillermo Gomez says.
He then employs a wrist lock to increase the pressure and force the attacker to the ground.
Once on the ground he shows how, if necessary, you can continue to keep the attacker down using pressure to the arm and elbow joint.
