Every Thursday and Saturday night at the Redwood Road Recreation Center two brothers, Nairobi and Arnaud Nodjigoto, and their cousin Abraham Wali exchange work for Karate lessons by helping to transform the room into a dojo training space, cleaning up and laying down mats.
The boys ride their bikes six miles to every practice through sun, rain, or snow without complaint. The boys have placed second and third in various Junior events.
Local parents also help underprivileged kids with fundraisers. The kids’ proud instructor Amadou Niang says, “Karate is definitely more than kicking and punching. It is not a violent sport. It is about learning life skills.”
