Although not one of high culture, Hong Kong finally supports pop-culture hero Bruce Lee

The government of Hong Kong had been slow to recognize pop-culture hero Bruce Lee because he did not represent high culture, such as opera.

But finally, although long overdue, Hong Kong has worked with Bruce Lee’s daughter to create the Bruce Lee exhibit at Heritage Museum, and has put out $500,000 more into a documentary on Bruce Lee’s life.

The government recognizes that Bruce Lee did much for the self-esteem of its young people, projecting Asian actors into the role of hero during a time when Hollywood only showed Asians in a bad light.
