Martial arts use soft and hard techniques

Martial arts originated in Asia as fighting arts. As combative arts outside of Asia expanded it was labeled martial arts.

Martial arts techniques involve many forms. The empty-handed or weaponless techniques involve chokes, joint locks, strikes, kicks, throws or take downs,  and grappling.

The softer techniques involve breathing exercises, chi-disruption, and meditation.

And of course there are many weapons techniques.
