The science of varieties of martial arts fighting making the body a death dealing weapon

This video tutorial shows the scientific explanation of why muay thai fighting, escrima, and karate works. These computer generated images show how the human body can act as a weapon, with or without hand held weapons, delivering death blows.

It begins by analyzing the side kick. It explains how the power comes from the torque generated by the rotation of the hip, the same principle that cracks a whip  (E= ½ mv2), and roughly the same force as a baseball bat. The longer the leg and faster the rotation, the faster the kick. Unlike karate muay thai fighters are taught to fight with the bone of the shin.

The strike of an elbow works like the point of a knife (P=F/A) with all the force concentrated in a small area. It will deliver a master cut even if it doesn’t knock out the opponent.

A knee strike, unlike the kick, gets its power from leverage. When one pulls the opponent down and drives the knee up, it delivers up to 2.5 tons of force, enough to lift a car. Two fists exerts 100 pounds of force on the vulnerable underside of the opponents jaw.

In escrima the flying knee relies on the explosive power of the legs with the equivalent of hitting the opponent in the chest with a sledge hammer. Using twisting motion while grabbing the other’s wrist has enough force to drag the other to the ground. The twisting motion of the torso combined with a weapon, such as a stick, can accelerate to over 25 m.p.h. Contact with the skull can cause a compressed fracture, like being hit in the temple with a hammer.

Baliog Pomali requires you to grab your opponent’s wrist, thrust your other arm behind the opponent’s head and under the arm pit of the same arm where you’re holding the wrist, then using your own weight to drive the opponent to the ground. If done with enough force, it doesn’t just end the fight, it can apply enough force on his neck to leave him paralyzed or dead.

In karate leg movements and kicks can produce deadly blows. Gedan Mawashi Geri the power of the kick can exceed speed of 30 m.p.h. In Jodan Mawashi Geri the impact is focused on the small part of the foot creating 1000 pounds of force on your opponent’s head like getting hit in the head with a Louisville slugger. Uchi Uke deflects an opponents blow with an opposing angle with your arm and coming from the power of your torso.  The harder you block, the further the opponent’s blow will deflect.

In karate arm movements can also produce lethal blows. Seiken Choku Zuki the 180 degree pull back of the arm combined with the snap of the arm magnifies the force of the blow with concentrated hit with the first two knuckles of the hand, the same energy as a bowling ball dropped from a rooftop. The Kote Uchi uses a wide swing of the arm to deliver up to 45 m.p.h. of force like being hit with an axe handle.

Fouette delivers a roundhouse kick designed for maximum impact, combined with a hard soled shoe, the kick can deliver a punch to the nose up and into the brain causing instant death. Pointe au foie/directe visage when accurate to within 1/2 an inch can get past the protecting rib cage and rupture the liver. Chasse bas uses forward motion of the hips and piston motion of the leg and the punch of the heel to permanently damage the opponent’s knee cap.

After watching this video you will understand thoroughly why those experts in the martial arts are required to register themselves as a human weapon.
